A Mission of Love: Responding to the Gospel with Action

action

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are called to live out the mission of love that Jesus exemplified. Jim’s sermon reminded us of the three responses to the gospel, as seen in the story of the shepherds and the two criminals. We are invited to respond with love, just as Jesus did, by embracing the mission of “Just 3″—Study, Share, and Serve.

Jesus’ Mission of Sacrificial Love

Jesus came on a mission driven by sacrificial love, offering Himself as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. John 15:13 states, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” This love is the foundation of our faith and the catalyst for our response to the gospel. It compels us to live differently, prioritizing others above ourselves and seeking to serve rather than be served.

Serve: Love in Action

We are called to “Serve”—to put love into action by meeting the needs of others. Galatians 5:13 encourages us, “Serve one another humbly in love.” By serving, we demonstrate the love of Christ to a world in need, becoming His hands and feet in our communities. Service is not just an act of charity but a reflection of our commitment to live out the gospel in tangible ways.

Responding to the Gospel

The shepherds responded to the gospel by seeking Jesus, worshiping Him, and sharing the good news with others (Luke 2:15-20). Similarly, we are called to respond with immediate obedience, seeking to know Him more and sharing His love with those around us. Our response to the gospel should be marked by a desire to grow in our relationship with God and to make His love known to others.

Conclusion

As we reflect on Jesus’ mission of love, let us be the change as Jesus has changed us. By studying His word, sharing His love, and serving others, we can live out the gospel in our daily lives, bringing hope and light to a world in need. Let us commit to being a community that embodies the love of Christ, responding to His call with action and purpose.
