Opening Every Gate – The Lordship That Transforms Everything

lord

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we often talk about being the change as Jesus has changed us. But real change requires more than accepting Jesus as Savior—it demands we acknowledge Him as Lord of everything.

The Difference Between Savior and Lord

Many people gladly accept Jesus as Savior. Who wouldn’t want forgiveness, eternal life, and escape from judgment? But accepting Jesus as Lord is different—it means recognizing that He owns everything, including you.

When Psalm 24:1 declares, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it,” it’s making a comprehensive ownership claim. God doesn’t just want to save you from hell; He wants to reign over your daily life.

True discipleship is surrender. It’s opening every gate of your life and saying, “God, come into every room, every corner, every hidden space. You’re not just my fire insurance—You’re my King.”

The Gates We Try to Keep Closed

We’re often selective about what we surrender to God. We’ll give Him Sunday mornings but keep our work decisions to ourselves. We’ll trust Him with our eternal destiny but worry constantly about our financial future. We’ll pray about big things but try to control the small details ourselves.

But Jesus asks the challenging question: “Why can’t I keep just one gate closed? Why can’t I keep this one area to myself?”

The answer is simple: Because partial surrender isn’t surrender at all. You can’t have Jesus as Savior without having Him as Lord. Romans 10:9 links them inseparably: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

What Does “Every Gate” Mean?

When we talk about opening every gate at Lakeview Christian Church, we mean surrendering absolutely everything:

Your Feelings: Even your emotions belong to God. Philippians 4:6-7 instructs, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Your Hurts: Past wounds, present pain, and deep disappointments all need to be surrendered. First Peter 5:7 invites us to cast “all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

Your Thoughts: Romans 12:2 calls us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” This means letting God reshape how you think about everything.

Your Priorities: Matthew 6:33 reorders our entire life: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Your Finances: Proverbs 3:9 challenges us to “honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.” Money reveals what we truly trust.

Your Relationships: Every friendship, every romantic relationship, every family connection comes under Christ’s lordship. Second Corinthians 6:14 reminds us not to “be yoked together with unbelievers.”

Your Future: This might be the hardest gate to open. We desperately want control over what’s coming. But Proverbs 3:5-6 calls us to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

The Freedom of Full Surrender

Here’s what many people miss: Opening every gate isn’t restrictive—it’s liberating. When you truly understand that the King of Glory owns your tomorrow, worry loses its power.

“I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I know who holds tomorrow.” This isn’t just a nice saying—it’s the foundation of peace. When Jesus is truly Lord, you can sleep at night. You can face uncertainty without fear. You can handle disappointment without despair.

Jeremiah 29:11 becomes personal: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Living the “Just 3” Under His Lordship

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, our mission of “Just 3″—Study, Share, and Serve—only works when Jesus is Lord of all:

Study: When Jesus is Lord, studying isn’t a duty—it’s discovering what your King desires. You study to love and know God more deeply because He owns your mind and heart.

Share: When Jesus is Lord, sharing isn’t awkward—it’s natural overflow. You share to help others know and love the King who changed everything for you.

Serve: When Jesus is Lord, serving isn’t exhausting—it’s energizing. Love in action flows freely when you’re surrendered to the God who is love.

The Question Before You

The real question today isn’t whether Jesus is King—He is, whether we acknowledge it or not. The question is whether you’ll open every gate and live like it’s true.

What gate are you keeping closed? What area of life are you withholding from His lordship? Is it your career ambitions? Your dating life? Your bank account? Your schedule? Your secret habits?

True transformation—the kind we celebrate at Lakeview Christian Church—happens when every gate swings open. When you stop trying to be king of your own little kingdom and bow before the true King of Glory.

Jesus doesn’t want part of your life. He wants all of it. And when you give Him everything, you discover that He gives you far more than you ever surrendered. That’s when you truly become the change—because Jesus has completely changed you.

Open every gate today. Let the King of Glory come in.
