The Question That Changes Everything
In Psalm 24, David poses one of Scripture’s most profound questions: “Who is this King of Glory?” It’s not just a theological inquiry—it’s deeply personal. We all crown kings in our lives, whether we realize it or not. For many, it’s success, relationships, financial security, or public opinion. The ancient Israelites faced the same struggle, constantly searching for something or someone to provide direction and hope.
But David asks a different question. He’s not looking for a temporary solution or a king who reigns for just a lifetime. He’s searching for the King whose kingdom never perishes—one who reigns with eternal glory and unshakable power.
The Answer Revealed in Scripture
Revelation 19:11-16 provides the definitive answer to David’s ancient question. John writes: “Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True… On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written: King of kings and Lord of lords.”
This victorious King is Jesus Christ—the one who reigns forever with perfect glory, justice, and love. Unlike earthly rulers who disappoint, fail, or fade away, Jesus is the eternal King who never changes, never compromises, and never abandons His people.
Why We Misplace Our Hope
Like the Israelites, we often misplace our hope in temporary things. We look to political leaders for security, to careers for identity, to relationships for fulfillment, or to possessions for satisfaction. Yet every earthly king eventually fails us. Every human authority has limitations. Only Jesus offers the unwavering hope and eternal reign we desperately need.
The problem isn’t that we desire a king—it’s that we crown the wrong ones. We give temporary things authority over our emotions, decisions, and sense of worth. But Psalm 24 redirects our focus to the only King worthy of our complete devotion.
What Makes Jesus the True King of Glory?
He Reigns Eternally: Unlike human rulers with limited terms and mortal lives, Jesus’ kingdom has no end. His reign extends beyond time into eternity (Daniel 7:14).
He Is Faithful and True: Revelation identifies Jesus as “Faithful and True”—characteristics no earthly leader can fully claim. He never breaks promises, never acts unjustly, and never abandons His people (Hebrews 13:5).
He Conquered Death: Jesus didn’t just teach about life—He defeated death itself through His resurrection. This victory demonstrates His absolute authority over everything we fear (1 Corinthians 15:54-57).
He Serves His People: Unlike earthly kings who demand service, Jesus came to serve. He washed feet, healed the sick, and ultimately laid down His life for His people (Mark 10:45).
Living Under the King of Glory
Recognizing Jesus as the King of Glory transforms how we live. When we acknowledge His rightful place on the throne of our hearts, several things happen:
Our Fears Diminish: When the King of the universe fights for us, what can truly threaten us? (Romans 8:31)
Our Priorities Shift: We stop living for temporary crowns and start investing in eternal purposes (Matthew 6:33).
Our Hope Becomes Unshakable: Because Jesus reigns forever, our hope isn’t dependent on circumstances, elections, or economic conditions (Hebrews 6:19).
Our Purpose Becomes Clear: We’re no longer wandering, searching for meaning. We serve the eternal King in His eternal mission (Ephesians 2:10).
The Invitation to Bow
David’s question in Psalm 24 demands a response. Who is this King of Glory? The answer is clear—Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords. But the personal question remains: Is He your King?
Jesus doesn’t force His reign upon anyone. He invites us to recognize His authority, surrender our lives, and experience the freedom that comes from serving the one true King. Unlike earthly rulers who exploit and oppress, Jesus offers abundant life, eternal hope, and unshakable peace.
Today, consider what kings you’ve crowned in your life. Then consider the One who wears the ultimate crown—the King who reigns with glory forever. Jesus stands ready to take His rightful place, not as a tyrant demanding submission, but as a loving Savior offering transformation.
The King of Glory is Jesus. Will you crown Him King of your life today?
