Contentment in Every Season: The Living Water of Christ

contentment

At Lakeview Christian Church, our mission is clear: Be the change as Jesus has changed us. We believe transformation starts from the inside out, fueled by the love and example of Jesus Christ. But what does it look like to live as changed people, especially when life’s circumstances are anything but easy?

Recently, Tyler reflected on a powerful truth: Our soul’s deepest longing is for the living water that only Jesus can give. No matter if we are riding high on life’s victories or struggling in the valley, it is Christ alone who sustains us, providing contentment beyond all understanding.

Contentment: Rooted in Christ, Not Circumstances

Tyler reminded us of Paul’s words in Philippians 4, where the apostle writes from a place of both abundance and need:

“Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:11-13, NASB)

Too often, we take “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” as a slogan for overcoming any obstacle. Tyler challenged us to see the deeper context: Paul’s “all things” covers both the highs and the lows. The secret to contentment isn’t a change in our circumstances; it’s a change in our source of strength. Whether we are brought low or abounding, Jesus is the living water that never runs dry (John 4:13-14).

“Just 3”: Study, Share, Serve

At Lakeview, we live out our mission through a simple but profound rhythm we call “Just 3”: Study, Share, and Serve. This is how we become the change, just as Jesus changed us.

STUDY: To Love and Know God

True contentment begins with knowing God. As Tyler put it, our soul’s thirst can only be quenched by the living water of Christ. We are called to study God’s word, not as an obligation, but as a way to know the One who loves us.

“But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14, NIV)

By regularly engaging in Scripture, prayer, and worship, we anchor our lives in God’s promises, learning—like Paul—to be content whatever comes.

SHARE: To Know and Love Others

Contentment is not a solitary experience. Jesus calls us into community, where we share life’s joys and burdens. Tyler’s reflection highlights that Christ’s strength meets us in our relationships, too.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2, ESV)

At Lakeview, sharing means opening our hearts, listening deeply, and loving others as Jesus loves us. Whether in small groups, around the table, or through everyday conversations, we practice vulnerability and encouragement, knowing we are not alone.

SERVE: Love in Action

Finally, contentment overflows in service. As Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, so we are called to serve others—not out of obligation, but as an outpouring of Christ’s love within us.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10, NIV)

Service is where love becomes visible. Whether it’s meeting practical needs, praying for someone, or volunteering in the community, our actions proclaim the hope and contentment we have in Christ.

Be the Change

Tyler’s message calls us to examine our source of strength and satisfaction. At Lakeview Christian Church, we don’t seek contentment in possessions, achievement, or even comfort. Instead, we root our lives in Christ, the living water who sustains us in every season.

Let’s commit to “Just 3”:

  • Study to love and know God
  • Share to know and love others
  • Serve as love in action

In doing so, we become the change—reflecting Jesus to a thirsty world.
