Advent Week 4: The Angel’s Candle — Love Announced to the World

As the fourth Sunday of Advent arrives, we light the Angel’s Candle—sometimes called the Candle of Love. This candle reminds us of the breathtaking moment when heaven broke into earth, and God’s love was proclaimed to all people.

Heaven’s Announcement: Good News for All

On the night Jesus was born, God sent angels to announce the arrival of the Savior. Their message was not for kings or priests, but for humble shepherds—ordinary people standing watch in the fields.

“And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.’ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’”
(Luke 2:10-14 ESV)

The angels’ message was clear: Jesus came for everyone. God’s love would no longer be a distant promise—it was now a living reality, wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.

God’s Love Revealed in Jesus

The arrival of Jesus is the ultimate expression of God’s love. In Christ, God stepped into our world, shared our struggles, and brought us hope. As the Apostle John would later write:

“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.”
(1 John 4:9 ESV)

Because Jesus came, we can know and experience God’s love in a personal way—no matter who we are or what we’ve done.

Sharing the Good News of Love

The angels could not contain their joy; they filled the sky with praise. In the same way, we are called to share the message of God’s love—with our words, our actions, and our lives. Every act of kindness, every word of encouragement, and every moment of forgiveness is an opportunity to reflect the love of Jesus.

Reflection:

  • How have you experienced God’s love through Jesus?
  • How can you share that love with others this Advent season?

As you light the Angel’s Candle, remember: you are loved beyond measure, and you have the privilege of sharing that good news with the world. Let God’s love shine through you today and always.
