Speaking Life: Ordinary Words, Extraordinary Impact
At Lakeview Christian Church, our mission is clear: “Be the change as Jesus has changed us.” We believe that God calls us not just to receive His love, but to let that love overflow into every relationship and conversation. One of the simplest and most powerful ways we can do that is with our words.
Jesus taught,
“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34, ESV)
What comes out in our daily conversations is a direct reflection of what’s in our hearts. As disciples, we are invited to let our transformed hearts shape the way we speak—so that our words become seeds of hope, comfort, and direction, pointing people toward the grace and truth of Christ.
“Can I Pray with You?”—An Open Door to God’s Love
Sometimes, the most powerful phrase you can say to someone is, “Can I pray with you?” This simple offer can break through walls of loneliness, pain, or uncertainty and open a window into God’s love.
Recently, in our church’s own experience, a delivery driver came by, burdened by invisible struggles. After her delivery, we simply asked, “Do you have anything we can pray for?” Tears welled up in her eyes. She confided, “You have no idea what’s going on in my life right now.” We prayed with her, trusting that God would move. We may never know all the ways that moment touched her, but we believe seeds were planted.
You don’t need a theology degree to offer this kind of spiritual hospitality. You just need a heart changed by Jesus, and the willingness to be present.
“Just 3,” Study, Share, Serve: Living Out Our Mission
At Lakeview Christian Church, we encourage every believer to embrace the “Just 3” challenge: Study, Share, Serve.
- Study: We study God’s Word so we can love and know Him more deeply. When our hearts are filled with His truth, our words naturally begin to reflect His character:“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom.” (Colossians 3:16, ESV)
- Share: Sharing isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about opening up your life. When someone shares a struggle, you don’t need to say, “I know how you feel.” Instead, humbly offer, “Let me tell you how God helped me through a similar situation.” Your testimony of God’s faithfulness can lift someone’s spirit and point them to hope. The apostle Peter encourages us:“But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15, ESV)
- Serve: Serving is love in action. Sometimes, the most Christlike thing you can do is to listen, pray, and walk alongside someone in their need.“Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:18, ESV)
Everyday Evangelism: You Are God’s Messenger
You don’t need a title or position to make a difference. Every follower of Jesus is equipped to share the gospel—one conversation, one prayer, one act of kindness at a time.
When you engage in an open, honest conversation—especially when you’re willing to pray or share how Jesus has changed your life—you become part of God’s story in someone else’s journey. You don’t need to fix their problems or have all the answers. You simply need to point them to the One who does.
Practical Ways to Point People to Jesus
- Ask, “Can I pray with you?” Whether it’s a friend, a coworker, or a stranger, this question can open spiritual conversations.
- Share your story. When someone shares a struggle, respond with humility: “Let me tell you how God helped me through something similar.”
- Live the gospel. Let your words and actions reflect the love of Christ every day.
- Invite others to church. Sometimes, the most significant step is an invitation.
Remember, as a community at Lakeview Christian Church, we are committed to “Be the Change.” By studying God’s Word, sharing hope, and serving in love, we become living testimonies of Jesus’ transforming power.
