Trusting the Good Shepherd: Living Out Our Faith in Action

good

In our journey of faith, it’s easy to profess trust in God with our words, but the true test of our trust is reflected in our actions. This concept was vividly illustrated in a story shared during a recent sermon at Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes. The story of Brett, a young football player, serves as a powerful metaphor for our spiritual lives. Brett, by all appearances, was a football player, yet when it came time to play, he hesitated and did not engage in the game. This story challenges us as a church to examine whether we are truly living out our faith or merely wearing the label of “Christian.”

Trusting God’s Game Plan

As believers, we are called to trust in God’s game plan for our lives. Romans 8:28 (NIV) assures us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This verse reminds us that God’s plans are ultimately for His glory and our good, even when we may not fully understand them. Our role is to trust that He is orchestrating every detail of our lives for a greater purpose.

The Good Shepherd’s Guidance

In John 10:11 (NIV), Jesus declares, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” As our Good Shepherd, Jesus leads us with love and care, never placing us in harm’s way but guiding us to where we are meant to be. Trusting in His guidance means stepping out in faith, even when the path is uncertain. It means believing that He knows what is best for us and that He will provide for our needs.

Living Out Our Faith

The challenge for us as a church is to move beyond mere appearances and actively participate in the life of faith. James 2:17 (NIV) states, “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Our faith must be evident in our actions, reflecting our trust in God’s plan and our commitment to His purposes.

As we gather for communion, we are reminded of the ultimate act of trust and obedience demonstrated by Jesus. He willingly laid down His life for us, trusting in the Father’s plan for redemption. As we partake in communion, let us renew our commitment to trust the Good Shepherd and to live out our faith with courage and conviction.

Embracing Our Mission

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, our mission is to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us.” This mission calls us to actively engage in our faith through our “Just 3” approach: Study, Share, and Serve. By studying God’s Word, sharing His love with others, and serving those in need, we embody the transformative power of Christ in our lives and communities.

Let us be a church that not only professes trust in God but demonstrates it through our actions. May we step into the game with confidence, trusting in the Good Shepherd’s guidance and embracing the opportunities He places before us to make a difference in the world.
