The Object of Our Faith: Finding Stability in Christ

object

Faith is a cornerstone of our Christian walk, but it is the object of our faith that truly matters. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are called to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us” by placing our trust in Jesus, the only firm foundation. In a world full of uncertainties, understanding where we place our faith is crucial for a stable and fulfilling life.

The Importance of the Object of Faith

The sermon reminds us that having faith in anything other than Jesus is like standing on thin ice; it cannot support us. We might have all the confidence in the world, but if our faith is misplaced, it will ultimately fail us. Only faith in Christ provides a stable foundation that can withstand the trials and challenges of life.

Matthew 7:24-25 illustrates this with the parable of the wise and foolish builders. Jesus says, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” This passage emphasizes the importance of building our lives on the solid foundation of Jesus’ teachings.

Scriptural Insights

Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This confidence must be in Christ, who is unchanging and faithful. When our faith is in Jesus, we can face life’s uncertainties with peace and assurance.

Psalm 18:2 declares, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.” This verse reminds us that God is our ultimate source of security and strength. When we place our faith in Him, we find stability and protection.

Application to Our Mission

“Study” to deepen your understanding of who Jesus is, strengthening your faith in Him. This involves regular engagement with scripture, prayer, and reflection on God’s character and promises.

“Share” your testimony of faith, encouraging others to trust in Jesus. By sharing how God has been a firm foundation in your life, you can inspire others to place their trust in Him.

“Serve” by being a living example of faith in action, demonstrating trust in God’s promises. This means living out your faith in practical ways, showing others the peace and stability that come from trusting in Jesus.

Conclusion: As we focus on the object of our faith, let us place our trust wholly in Jesus. By doing so, we fulfill our mission to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us,” impacting our community and the world. In Christ, we find the stability and strength to navigate life’s challenges, knowing that He is our rock and fortress.
