Three Crosses, Three Choices – Which One Is Yours?

The Choice That Defines Eternity

On a hill outside Jerusalem, three wooden crosses stood against the darkening sky. Each cross tells a different story, and remarkably, every person alive today is represented by one of them. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we believe understanding these three crosses is essential to understanding the gospel itself.

The Cross of Rejection

The first cross held a criminal who mocked Jesus even in his dying moments. He demanded rescue but refused surrender. His heart remained hardened despite witnessing the Son of God suffering beside him. This cross represents those who acknowledge Jesus exists but never make Him Lord.

Today, many people want Jesus to fix their problems without changing their lives. They call on God during crises but return to their old ways when the storm passes. This is rejection—wanting Jesus’ power without His lordship.

The Cross of Reception

The second cross held a criminal who humbled his heart. He admitted his guilt, recognized Jesus’ innocence, and asked to be remembered. Despite his past, he received the promise of paradise. This cross represents those who surrender to Jesus as King and Savior.

The difference between these two criminals wasn’t their past—both were guilty. The difference was their response to Jesus. One hardened his heart; the other humbled it.

The Middle Cross of Redemption

Between them hung Jesus, the innocent dying for the guilty. This cross represents God’s redemption plan for humanity. Jesus didn’t die for His sins—He had none. He died for yours and mine.

Your Choice Today

Two thousand years later, Jesus still offers redemption. The same choice stands before us: Will you reject Him or receive Him? Will you harden your heart or humble it?

At Lakeview Christian Church, our mission is to be the change as Jesus has changed us through “Just 3”:

  • Study to love and know God
  • Share to know and love others
  • Serve as love in action

The great news is that it’s never too late to choose the cross of reception. Jesus is still saying, “Today you will be with me in paradise” to all who call on His name.

Which cross represents your response to Jesus? The choice is yours, but the offer of redemption remains open. Don’t wait another day to humble your heart and receive the King who died to save you.
