Standing at the Foot of the Cross: A Life-Changing Decision
At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we believe in being the change as Jesus has changed us. This transformation begins with one crucial moment—standing at the cross and deciding what to do with Jesus.
Imagine Yourself There
Close your eyes for a moment. Picture three crosses on a hillside. The sky is unnaturally dark. The ground is eerily still. You hear the sound of nails being driven into wood, the cries of anguish, and then those seven powerful sayings from Jesus—words of forgiveness, redemption, thirst, finality, and surrender.
And finally, Jesus breathes His last.
In that moment, it hits you with overwhelming force: He did this for you. He did this for me.
The Question That Changes Everything
What are you going to do with it?
The cross isn’t just a historical event we study in church. It’s a personal invitation that demands a response. You can’t remain neutral about Jesus. You either move toward Him or stay at a distance.
Maybe you made a decision to follow Jesus years ago, but lately you’ve felt distant. Perhaps life has gotten busy, or disappointment has crept in, or you’ve simply drifted away. Here’s the good news: Come home. The curtain is torn. The door is open.
God isn’t waiting for you to get your act together before He welcomes you back. He’s waiting with open arms right now.
You Don’t Have to Clean Up First
If you’ve never surrendered your life to Jesus, let me say this as clearly as possible: You don’t have to clean up first. Come as you are.
So many people think they need to get their life straight before coming to God. They believe they have to quit certain habits, fix their relationships, or become a better person first. But that’s not how grace works.
Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Jesus didn’t wait for you to be perfect. He died for you while you were still broken, still struggling, still lost.
Living Out “Just 3” at Lakeview Christian Church
Our mission is simple but transformative:
Study – To love and know God through His Word Share – To know and love others by sharing the gospel Serve – Love in action, serving our community and world
It all begins at the cross. When you truly understand what Jesus did for you, studying His Word becomes a joy, sharing His love becomes natural, and serving others becomes a privilege.
The Invitation Still Stands
The cross of Jesus Christ stands as the ultimate expression of God’s love. It’s where justice and mercy meet, where sin is defeated, and where new life begins.
What will you do with Jesus today? Will you continue standing at a distance, or will you step forward in faith? Will you come home if you’ve drifted away? Will you surrender your life to Him for the first time?
The curtain has been torn. Access to God is available to everyone—not just the religious elite, not just those who have it all together, but to anyone who calls on the name of Jesus.
At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we’re a community of people who have been changed by the cross. We’re not perfect—we’re forgiven. We’re not better than anyone else—we’re simply loved by God and learning to love others.
The cross demands a response. What’s yours?
