The Cost of Commitment

cost

In our journey of discipleship at Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are reminded that following Jesus requires more than just good intentions. A recent sermon used the analogy of a gym membership to illustrate the difference between signing up and showing up. This post explores the cost of commitment and how it relates to our mission to “Share” to know and love others.

Beyond Good Intentions

Many of us have experienced the initial enthusiasm of joining a gym, only to find our commitment waning over time. This analogy highlights the difference between having good intentions and taking consistent action. Discipleship requires more than just signing a form or carrying a title; it demands sweat, determination, discipline, and sacrifice.

At Lakeview, we encourage believers to “Share” their faith with others, understanding that spiritual growth is a lifelong commitment. We must be willing to pay the cost of discipleship, which involves daily dedication to following Jesus. This commitment extends beyond personal growth to include sharing the love of Christ with others.

The Importance of Consistency

Consistency is key in our journey of discipleship. Just as physical fitness requires regular exercise, spiritual growth requires regular engagement with God’s Word and active participation in the life of the church. By “Sharing” our faith and experiences with others, we can encourage one another to remain committed to the path of discipleship.

Conclusion

The cost of commitment is a necessary part of our journey as disciples of Christ. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are committed to “Be the change” by consistently “Sharing” our faith and love with others. Let us embrace the challenge of commitment and strive to live lives that reflect our dedication to following Jesus.
