Resting in God’s Grace: Living as Adopted Sons and Daughters

grace

The concept of grace is central to the Christian faith, yet many believers struggle to fully embrace it. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are reminded that we are not just forgiven slaves but adopted sons and daughters of God. This Christmas season, let’s explore what it means to rest in God’s grace and live as His beloved children, free from the burdens of guilt and striving.

The Freedom of Grace

Imagine someone paying off your entire mortgage. Would you continue making payments? Of course not! Similarly, Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins, setting us free from the burden of trying to earn God’s favor. We are called to live in the freedom of His grace, not as debtors but as cherished children. This freedom is a gift, not something we can earn or repay, and it invites us to live with joy and gratitude.

Living as Children of God

Too often, we live as if we need to repay God for His grace. But Christmas calls us to stop living like debtors and start living like children of God. This means embracing our identity as His sons and daughters, secure in His love and acceptance. We are free to live the life we’ve been called to, without the pressure of trying to earn His approval. This shift in perspective allows us to experience the fullness of life that Jesus promised.

Be the Change: Study, Share, Serve

Our mission at Lakeview Christian Church is to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us.” Through “Just 3”: Study, Share, Serve, we learn to rest in God’s grace. Studying His Word reveals the depth of His love and the freedom we have in Christ. Sharing this grace with others helps them experience the freedom we have found, breaking the chains of guilt and striving. Serving others is a natural response to the grace we’ve received, as we extend the love and acceptance we’ve experienced to those around us.

Conclusion

Resting in God’s grace transforms our lives. It frees us from the burden of trying to earn His love and allows us to live as His beloved children. As you embrace this truth, let it inspire you to be the change in your community, sharing the message of grace and love with those around you. At Lakeview Christian Church, we invite you to join us in this journey of grace, experiencing the joy and freedom that comes from living as adopted sons and daughters of God.
