The Spirit of Pentecost Lives Today
Here’s a truth that should transform how you live: the same Spirit that filled that upper room on the Day of Pentecost is the same Spirit available to you today. This isn’t ancient history—it’s present reality. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we believe the Holy Spirit is still filling, empowering, and sending believers into the world.
We’re living in what Scripture calls “the last days.” While we can’t predict exactly when Jesus will return, we know this: we need to be ready, and there’s work to be done.
Changed by the Almighty Spirit
The real question isn’t whether the Spirit is available—it’s whether you’ll be changed by the Spirit of the Almighty and living God. Transformation is at the heart of the Christian life. Romans 12:2 calls us to “be transformed by the renewal of your mind.”
This transformation isn’t optional for followers of Jesus. When the Spirit fills you, everything changes:
- Weary? He will fill you
- Afraid? He will empower you
- Searching? He will reveal Himself
- Lost? He still saves—today and always
These promises aren’t just for the spiritually elite. They’re for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord.
The Mission Is Clear
The Spirit has come. The mission is clear. The invitation is open. But here’s what many Christians miss: being filled with the Spirit isn’t the end goal—it’s the beginning of mission.
At Lakeview Christian Church, our mission is to be the change as Jesus has changed us. We live this through “Just 3”:
Study – When we study God’s Word, the Spirit illuminates truth and deepens our love for God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 reminds us that Scripture equips us for every good work.
Share – The Spirit compels us to share the Gospel with others. Acts 1:8 promises, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses.”
Serve – Love in action demonstrates the Spirit’s transforming power. Galatians 5:13 calls us to “serve one another through love.”
A Consuming Fire
The imagery of fire at Pentecost is significant. Fire spreads. Fire consumes. Fire transforms. The Holy Spirit came like fire because He wants to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth, consuming everything that stands in the way of God’s kingdom.
We need to go out with this consuming fire and share it with the world. This isn’t about religious duty—it’s about being so transformed by God’s love that we can’t help but share it with others.
Are You Ready?
Two critical questions demand our attention:
First: Are you ready for Christ’s return? We don’t know the day or hour, but we know He’s coming. Have you surrendered your life to Jesus? Have you been baptized for the forgiveness of sins and received the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38)?
Second: Are you doing the work? There are things that need to be done. People who need to hear the Gospel. Neighbors who need to be served. Communities that need to experience Christ’s love through His church.
We need to be sent. We need to be compelled. We need to move beyond comfortable Christianity into Spirit-empowered mission.
The Invitation Remains Open
At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we believe the same Spirit that transformed fearful disciples into bold witnesses is still at work today. That Spirit wants to fill you, empower you, and send you into the world as a witness for Jesus.
The invitation is open. The Spirit is available. The mission is clear.
If you’re weary, come and be filled. If you’re afraid, come and be empowered. If you’re searching, come and discover the God who reveals Himself. If you’re lost, know that He still saves.
Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Don’t wait until you feel ready. The Spirit makes you ready. The Spirit equips you. The Spirit sends you.
Join us at Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes as we live out our calling to Study, Share, and Serve. Together, we’ll be the change as Jesus has changed us, empowered by the same Spirit that transformed the world on the Day of Pentecost.
The consuming fire of the Holy Spirit is still burning. The question is: will you let it ignite your life for God’s mission?
