At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we’re committed to our mission of “Be the change as Jesus has changed us.” Today, we’re exploring those extraordinary moments when God breaks through our ordinary expectations, revealing His extraordinary presence in ways we could never anticipate.
Study (Loving and Knowing God)
Have you ever experienced a moment so profound it seems to suspend time? The disciples found themselves in exactly such a moment during the Transfiguration – a spiritual encounter so intense it would forever change their understanding of Jesus.
Imagine being suddenly awakened by a spectacular display of divine glory. Unlike a thunderstorm that jolts us awake with its sudden brightness and sound, this was a supernatural revelation that went beyond natural phenomena. The disciples were literally staring at the radiance of God’s glory – a moment so powerful it defied comprehension.
Scripture Reflection: “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being…” (Hebrews 1:3, NIV)
This verse captures the essence of what the disciples experienced. Jesus wasn’t just revealing a glimpse of glory; He was showing His true divine nature – the very embodiment of God’s magnificent presence.
Peter’s response is wonderfully human. Overwhelmed by the moment, he desperately wanted to freeze time. “Master,” he said, “let us make three tents – one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” It wasn’t about creating a permanent dwelling, but about capturing an indescribable moment of divine connection.
Share (Knowing and Love Others)
We all have moments when we wish we could pause time – times of incredible spiritual clarity, profound peace, or extraordinary revelation. Peter’s reaction reminds us that these moments are gifts to be treasured, not simply stored away, but shared with others.
The transfiguration wasn’t just a personal experience for Peter, James, and John. It was a transformative moment that would reshape how they understood Jesus, how they preached, and how they shared His message with the world.
