Letting Go to Live Fully

go

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are called to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us.” This mission challenges us to let go of the things that hinder our spiritual growth. A recent sermon used the story of the monkey and the banana to illustrate the importance of letting go. This post explores the significance of this teaching and how it aligns with our mission to “Serve” by demonstrating love in action.

The Monkey and the Banana

The story of the monkey and the banana serves as a powerful metaphor for the things we hold onto that hinder our spiritual growth. Just as the monkey’s desire for the banana traps him, our attachment to worldly possessions, comfort, or sin can prevent us from fully embracing the life Jesus calls us to.

Jesus invites us to let go of these hindrances and trust Him completely. This act of surrender is central to our mission at Lakeview, where we “Serve” by demonstrating love in action. By releasing our grip on the things that hold us back, we open ourselves to the abundant life Jesus offers.

The Freedom of Letting Go

Letting go is not about losing something valuable but about gaining something far greater. When we release our attachment to the things of this world, we find freedom in Christ. This freedom allows us to “Serve” others selflessly, reflecting the love and grace of Jesus in our actions.

Conclusion

The call to let go is a vital part of our journey as disciples of Christ. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are committed to “Be the change” by letting go of the things that hinder our spiritual growth and embracing the freedom found in Christ. Through “Serve,” we can demonstrate love in action and reflect the transformative power of Jesus in our lives. Let us embrace this call and strive to live lives that reflect our commitment to following Jesus.
