Humility: The Path to True Greatness

humility

In a culture that often celebrates self-promotion and personal achievement, the biblical call to humility stands in stark contrast. Philippians 2:3-4 reminds us to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit but to consider others more significant than ourselves. This post explores the path to true greatness through humility, as taught by Jesus, and how we can apply these principles in our daily lives.

The Example of Jesus

Jesus exemplified humility throughout His ministry. He taught His disciples that true greatness is not about status or recognition but about serving others. In Matthew 23:11-12, Jesus said, “The greatest among you will be your servant.” This principle challenges us to redefine greatness in our lives, focusing on how we can serve others rather than seeking personal glory.

Study: Learning from the Humility of Christ

Studying the life of Jesus helps us understand the depth of His humility. Philippians 2:5-8 describes how Jesus, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage. Instead, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross. By studying these passages, we can learn how to emulate Christ’s humility in our own lives.

Share: Building a Community of Humility

Sharing our lives with others in humility fosters a supportive and loving community. By considering others more important than ourselves, we create an environment where everyone is valued and encouraged. This aligns with our mission to “Share” at Lakeview Christian Church. When we share our resources, time, and love with others, we demonstrate the humility that Christ calls us to embody.

Serve: Demonstrating Humility Through Service

Serving others is a tangible expression of our humility. Jesus came not to be served but to serve (Mark 10:45), and we are called to follow His example. By serving those in need, we reflect His love and bring hope to a hurting world. Whether it’s volunteering at a local shelter or helping a neighbor in need, acts of service demonstrate the humility that is central to our faith.

Conclusion

At Lakeview Christian Church, we are committed to living out our mission of “Just 3” by studying God’s Word, sharing His love, and serving others. By embracing humility, we can be the change that reflects Jesus’ transformative power in our lives. Let us strive to be a community that embodies the love and grace of Christ, working together to make a lasting impact in our world. As we continue to grow in faith and fellowship, may we always remember that true greatness is found in serving others with humility and love.
