Embracing Transformation: The Heart of Communion and Our Call to Holiness

holiness

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, our mission is to “Be the Change as Jesus has Changed Us.” This mission is beautifully encapsulated in our “Just 3” approach: Study, Share, and Serve. In a recent sermon, Tyler reminded us of the profound truth at the heart of communion and our call to holiness—not as a mere religious obligation, but as a transformative relationship with Jesus Christ.

Study: To Love and Know God

Pastor Tyler emphasized that our journey towards holiness is not about adhering to a set of rules or engaging in behavior modification. Instead, it is about understanding the price that was paid for us through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. As 1 Peter 1:18-19 tells us, we were ransomed not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ. This truth invites us to study and delve deeper into the love and grace of God, allowing His Word to transform our hearts and minds. Romans 12:2 encourages us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, so that we may discern the will of God—what is good, acceptable, and perfect.

Share: To Know and Love Others

The heart of communion is a reminder of the love that Jesus has shown us, a love that compels us to love others. Pastor Tyler highlighted that our transformation is not just for our benefit, but for the sake of those around us. As we share our lives and our faith, we reflect the love of Christ to a world in need. In John 13:34-35, Jesus commands us to love one another as He has loved us, so that everyone will know we are His disciples. By sharing this love, we fulfill our mission to know and love others, building a community that mirrors the heart of Christ.

Serve: Love in Action

Our call to holiness is also a call to action. Pastor Tyler reminded us that we are to put off the old and become the new, living lives that are distinct and set apart. This transformation is not passive; it requires us to serve others, demonstrating love in action. James 2:17 reminds us that faith without works is dead. As we serve, we embody the change that Jesus has brought into our lives, showing the world what it means to live a life transformed by His love.

Conclusion

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are committed to being the change as Jesus has changed us. Through studying to love and know God, sharing to know and love others, and serving as love in action, we live out our mission in tangible ways. As we reflect on Pastor Tyler’s message, let us embrace the heart of communion and our call to holiness, allowing the love of Christ to transform us from the inside out. May we continue to grow in faith, love, and service, shining as beacons of hope and love in our community and beyond.
