Embracing a New Identity in Christ

identity

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we believe in the transformative power of Jesus’ love. Our mission is to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us,” which includes embracing our new identity in Christ. The story of the repentant woman in Luke 7 illustrates the profound transformation that occurs when we encounter Jesus and receive His grace.

The Woman’s Transformation

In the sermon, the woman who anoints Jesus’ feet experiences a profound transformation. Despite her past, she receives forgiveness and a new identity through Jesus’ grace. Her story reminds us that our past does not define us; Jesus does. When we come to Jesus with a repentant heart, He offers us a new beginning, free from the shame and guilt of our past. This transformation is a testament to the power of God’s love and the new identity we receive as His children.

Study: Discovering Our Identity in Christ

Studying scripture helps us understand our new identity in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, “If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” By immersing ourselves in God’s Word, we discover who we are in Him. This is an essential part of our mission to “Study” and “love and know God.” As we study, we learn that we are beloved children of God, heirs to His promises, and called to live in the freedom and joy of our new identity.

Share: Encouraging Others in Their New Identity

Sharing our journey of transformation can encourage others to embrace their new identity in Christ. By being open about our experiences, we inspire others to seek the same change and find their place in God’s family. This aligns with our mission to “Share” and “know and love others.” When we share our stories, we testify to the power of God’s grace and invite others to experience the same freedom and transformation.

Serve: Living Out Our New Identity

Serving others is a reflection of our new identity in Christ. By living out our faith through acts of love and service, we demonstrate the change Jesus has made in us. This is how we “Serve” and put love into action. Our service is a response to the grace we have received, and it is an opportunity to extend that grace to others. As we serve, we embody the love of Christ and fulfill our calling to be His hands and feet in the world.

Conclusion

Embracing our new identity in Christ is a journey of transformation and grace. At Lakeview Christian Church, we are committed to being the change as Jesus has changed us, through studying, sharing, and serving with love and humility. Let us be a community that reflects the heart of Christ, offering grace and compassion to all, and continually seeking to grow in our understanding of God’s boundless love. As we embrace our new identity, may we live in the freedom and joy that comes from being children of God, and may we inspire others to do the same.
