Let Truth Reframe Your Story – Finding Hope When Life Feels Overwhelming

life

When Emotions Fail You

Walking into church feeling cold, confused, and upset is more common than you might think. Life’s circumstances can leave us emotionally drained, spiritually exhausted, and desperately searching for answers.

But here’s what many miss: your answer is not more emotion. It’s more truth.

The Lion Principle

Charles Spurgeon famously said, “The Word of God is like a lion. You don’t have to defend it, just let it loose. It will defend itself.”

This powerful image reminds us that God’s Word doesn’t need our help—it needs our attention. When we release the truth of Scripture into our circumstances, it has the power to transform everything.

Backwards Problem-Solving

Here’s how most of us handle problems: Crisis hits, panic sets in, then we frantically search for what the Bible says about our situation.

But that’s backwards.

You should know what the Bible says before you get into the problem. When Scripture is already planted deep in your heart, you won’t be caught off guard when trials come. The truth will already be there, ready to guide you through the darkness.

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we believe in being the change as Jesus has changed us. Our “Just 3” mission starts with Study—loving and knowing God through His Word—because truth must come before the storm, not after.

Let Truth Interpret Circumstances

We naturally let our circumstances interpret truth. We say, “This bad thing happened, so God must not care” or “My prayer wasn’t answered, so God must not be listening.”

But God calls us to flip that script: Let truth interpret your circumstances, not the other way around.

When you anchor yourself in biblical truth, you can face any storm with confidence:

  • Romans 8:28 – “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him”
  • Jeremiah 29:11 – “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you”
  • 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 – “Our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory”

Hearts on Fire

The disciples on the road to Emmaus experienced something remarkable. As Jesus opened the Scriptures to them, they later said, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road?”

Before their eyes were opened, their hearts were awakened.

This is the power of God’s Word. When you open Scripture, something profound happens. Jesus is revealed. Truth penetrates. Hearts ignite.

You don’t need more emotional experiences—you need more encounters with truth. Get back into the Word. Let God reframe your story.

The Practical Path Forward

  1. Daily Bible reading – Start with just 10 minutes
  2. Memorize Scripture – Plant truth deep in your heart
  3. Join a Bible study – Learn alongside other believers
  4. Apply what you learn – Let truth change your actions
