Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus: Finding Hope in Sorrow

sorrow

In times of sorrow and grief, it can be difficult to see beyond our pain. Yet, as we learned in a recent sermon at Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, there is hope to be found when we fix our eyes on Jesus. By looking to Him, we can find comfort and strength to navigate life’s challenges.

The Weight of Sorrow

Sorrow has a way of consuming us, causing us to hang our heads low and miss the presence of Jesus in our lives. Mary Magdalene experienced this at the tomb. In her grief, she was so focused on her loss that she failed to recognize the risen Savior standing before her. How often do we do the same?

When we are overwhelmed by sorrow, it can be difficult to see beyond our immediate circumstances. We may feel alone and abandoned, but the truth is that Jesus is always with us. He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Scripture Reference: Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”

Looking to Jesus: The Author and Perfecter of Our Faith

The key to finding hope in sorrow is to fix our eyes on Jesus. He is the author and perfecter of our faith, and He has the power to transform our grief into joy. When we look to Him, we are reminded of His love and faithfulness, and we can find the strength to persevere.

In the sermon, we were encouraged to look to Jesus, just as Mary did when she finally recognized Him. Her sorrow turned to joy when she heard His voice and realized that He was alive. This is a powerful reminder that Jesus is always with us, even in our darkest moments. Scripture Reference: Hebrews 12:2 – “Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Share: Knowing and Loving Others

As we find hope in Jesus, we are called to share that hope with others. By sharing our experiences and testimonies, we can encourage and uplift those around us. Community and fellowship are essential to growing our faith and finding support in times of need.

At Lakeview Christian Church, we are committed to sharing the love of Jesus with others. We believe that by coming together as a community, we can support one another and grow in our faith. Scripture Reference: 1 Thessalonians 5:11 – “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”

Conclusion

In times of sorrow, let us fix our eyes on Jesus and find hope in His presence. As we do so, we are called to share that hope with others and to be a source of encouragement and support. We invite you to participate in Lakeview Christian Church’s mission to share the love of Jesus with others and to be the change as Jesus has changed us.
