Embracing the Eternal Christmas: Living in Anticipation of Christ’s Return

anticipation

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we believe that the message of Christmas extends far beyond December 25th. As Jim reminded us in his sermon, the true essence of Christmas is found in the Advent season—a time of waiting with eager anticipation for all that Christ has brought and will bring. This anticipation doesn’t end with the holiday season; it continues until His second coming.

The Hope and Peace of Christ in Turmoil

In a world filled with turmoil, it’s easy to lose sight of the hope and peace that Christ offers. Yet, as believers, we are called to praise Him in every moment, recognizing that He is the only one who can guide us through life’s challenges. Philippians 4:7 reminds us, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This peace is not just a fleeting feeling but a profound assurance that God is with us, even in the darkest times.

Study: Loving and Knowing God

To truly embrace the eternal Christmas, we must commit to “Study”—to love and know God more deeply. This involves immersing ourselves in Scripture, understanding His promises, and recognizing the hope we have in Christ. As we study, we prepare our hearts for His return, living each day with the anticipation of standing in His perfect presence, where there is no more sorrow or pain (Revelation 21:4). By studying God’s Word, we align our lives with His will and grow in our relationship with Him.

Living in Anticipation

The Advent season teaches us to live in anticipation, not just for a holiday, but for the fulfillment of God’s promises. This anticipation transforms our daily lives, encouraging us to live with purpose and hope. Romans 8:24-25 speaks to this hope: “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.” This hope is a driving force that compels us to live differently, with our eyes fixed on eternity.

Conclusion

As we continue to celebrate the spirit of Christmas throughout the year, let us be the change as Jesus has changed us. By studying His word, we prepare our hearts and minds for His glorious return, living each day with the hope and peace that only He can provide. Let us not settle for less than what God has laid out for us, but instead, embrace the fullness of His promises and live in eager anticipation of His return.
