Casting Off Distractions: Embracing Renewal in Christ

distractions

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are on a journey to deepen our relationship with God and live out our mission to “Be the Change as Jesus Has Changed Us.” A key aspect of this journey is recognizing and removing the distractions that distance us from God, allowing us to fully embrace the new life He offers. In a recent message, we were reminded of the transformative power of shedding our old selves and embracing renewal in Christ, as highlighted in Colossians 3:8-10.

Embracing Renewal: A Call to Transformation

The passage from Colossians 3:8-10 calls us to rid ourselves of anger, rage, slander, and other destructive behaviors, urging us to put on the new self, which is being renewed in the knowledge and image of our Creator. This transformation is not just a one-time event but an ongoing process of becoming more like Christ. As we strive to live out our mission at Lakeview, we are reminded that true change begins with a heart that is open to God’s work in our lives.

Removing Distractions: Focusing on God’s Presence

In our fast-paced world, it is easy to become distracted by the noise and busyness that surround us. These distractions can distance us from God and hinder our spiritual growth. However, we are encouraged to cast off these distractions and cultivate an anticipatory spirit, waiting on God to show up in our lives. As the message reminded us, we don’t need to go to retreats or camps to encounter God; He is present with us right here and now, deserving of all our praise.

Living Out Our Mission: Study, Share, Serve

At Lakeview, our mission to “Be the Change as Jesus Has Changed Us” is embodied through our “Just 3” approach: Study, Share, and Serve. By studying God’s Word, we deepen our understanding of His will and align our lives with His teachings. Sharing our faith and lives with others builds a supportive community that reflects Christ’s love. Serving others puts our faith into action, demonstrating the transformative power of God’s love in tangible ways.

Conclusion: A Community of Transformation

As we continue our journey at Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, let us embrace the renewal that comes from casting off distractions and focusing on God’s presence in our lives. By living out our mission through Study, Share, and Serve, we can be the change that reflects the love and grace of Jesus Christ to those around us. Together, we can make a difference, one life at a time, as we are transformed by the renewing of our minds and hearts in Christ.
