What Can I Invest In That Will Outlive Me?

invest

What really matters in life? What can you invest in that will outlive you—something that endures beyond the years, the careers, and the possessions? At Lakeview Christian Church, we believe the answer is simple and profound: invest in the next generation. Our mission, “Be the Change as Jesus has changed us,” calls us to think beyond ourselves and pour into the lives of those who will come after.

The Next Generation: An Eternal Investment

As parents, grandparents, mentors, and church family, we are given the privilege and responsibility of planting seeds of faith that will grow long after we are gone. The Psalmist writes,

“He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God…” (Psalm 78:5-7, ESV)

This is not just about raising good citizens or successful athletes. Of course, we celebrate when our kids try new things—like a grandson playing soccer for the first time! But our greatest prayer is that our children and grandchildren become people who know Jesus as Lord and Savior. The impact of a life lived for Christ ripples out into families, communities, and even generations we may never see.

Raising Kids Up in the Faith: Home First, Church Together

Scripture is clear that the foundation of faith is laid at home. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 instructs,

“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

At Lakeview Christian Church, we offer vibrant children’s and youth ministries designed to encourage kids in their walk with God. But the most important spiritual influence in a child’s life is their family. Our church family comes alongside parents—not to replace them, but to support, equip, and encourage them. Faithful parents, grandparents, and caring adults are the front line in passing on a living faith.

“Just 3”: A Legacy Built Through Study, Share, and Serve

How do we actually live out this legacy? We keep it simple and powerful with “Just 3”—Study, Share, Serve:

Study: To Love and Know God

We encourage families and individuals to study God’s Word together. The Bible is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), shaping both young and old. Whether reading a children’s Bible with your toddler, memorizing Scripture with your teen, or studying as a small group, every moment spent learning about God is an investment in eternity.

Share: To Know and Love Others

Faith is meant to be shared. We urge parents and mentors to share their faith stories with the next generation. Tell your children how God has worked in your life. Create an atmosphere where doubts and questions are welcomed. As Jesus said,

“By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35, ESV)

Our church’s children’s and youth ministries provide safe spaces for kids to build friendships, ask questions, and experience the love of Christian community.

Serve: Love in Action

Kids learn best by seeing faith in action. Involve your children in acts of service—whether volunteering together at church, helping a neighbor, or participating in a community outreach. Jesus modeled servant leadership:

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45, ESV)

Serving together not only blesses others but also helps young hearts understand what it means to follow Christ.

For Those Still Seeking

Perhaps you’re reading this as an adult who has never made a decision to follow Jesus. Know that it’s never too late. At Lakeview Christian Church, we want to walk alongside you as you discover faith—so that you, too, can invest in the next generation with eternal impact.

Be the Change: Your Legacy Starts Now

What you invest in today shapes tomorrow. Houses, cars, and careers will fade, but a legacy of faith endures. Join us at Lakeview Christian Church as we “Be the Change”—raising up children, youth, and adults to know, love, and serve Jesus. Through Study, Share, and Serve, we are building a community that lasts far beyond our own years—a true legacy in Christ.
