❤️🩹 Anyone can look faithful on a good day. You never really find out what a person believes about grace until they’ve hit their worst—exposed, ashamed, sure they’ve blown it for good. Psalm 51 is that moment. We’re staying in Summer in the Psalms this Sunday with Psalm 51 — written not after David cleaned himself up, but from inside the wreckage: adultery, murder, a cover-up, and a prophet pointing straight at him: “You are the man.” But he didn’t hide. He ran to God—and asked for a new heart.
🙏 “Have mercy on me, O God” — even exposed, David runs to God, not from Him; only God can restore what sin has damaged
⚖️ “Against you, you only, have I sinned” — every sin against people is first a rebellion against God; David owns it instead of managing it
🤍 “Create in me a clean heart, O God” — he doesn’t ask for another chance, he asks for another heart; only God can “create”
🕊️ “Take not your Holy Spirit from me” — his deepest fear wasn’t losing his crown but losing God’s presence—what he begged for, Jesus now gives freely
💔 “A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise” — God never wanted empty rituals; the broken heart is the real offering
So here’s the invitation this week: when failure leaves you hiding, don’t cover it or fix yourself—come home to the God whose grace is bigger than your worst. Stop being your own savior. Trust the Son of David who died in your place, and be made new.
