The Humble King: A Different Kind of Royalty

king

In the heart of Jerusalem, a momentous event unfolded that would forever change the world. Jesus, the King of Kings, entered the city not with the grandeur of earthly royalty, but on the back of a donkey, surrounded by ordinary people. This triumphal entry is a powerful reminder of the kind of kingdom Jesus came to establish—a kingdom not of this world, but one that transforms hearts and lives. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are called to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us,” and this begins by understanding the true nature of our King.

The Humble Entry: A King Like No Other

As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowd shouted “Hosanna,” proclaiming Him as King. Yet, this King wore no royal garments, bore no crown, and rode no majestic steed. Instead, He came in humility, fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9: “Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Jesus’ entry was a declaration of peace and salvation, not through force, but through love and sacrifice.

Study: Understanding Jesus’ Mission

To truly embrace Jesus as King, we must study His life and teachings. In John 12:12-15, we see the fulfillment of prophecy and the revelation of Jesus’ mission. He came to save, not through political power, but through the power of the cross. As we delve into Scripture, we gain a deeper understanding of His purpose and our place in His kingdom. 2 Timothy 2:15 encourages us to “do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”

Ordinary Followers: The Power of Common People

Jesus’ court was not made up of warriors or nobles, but of fishermen, tax collectors, and ordinary people like you and me. This diverse group of followers exemplifies the transformative power of Jesus’ love and the inclusivity of His kingdom. In 1 Corinthians 1:27-29, Paul reminds us that “God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.” We are all invited to be part of this extraordinary story.

Conclusion: Embracing Our Role in God’s Kingdom

The triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is a powerful reminder of the kind of King we serve—one who calls us to humility, service, and transformation. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are committed to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us” through “Just 3” – Study, Share, Serve. Let us move from being spectators to active participants in God’s kingdom, embracing our role in His story and proclaiming His love to the world.
