Overcoming Idleness with Purposeful Engagement

idle

In a world where idleness can easily creep in, the call to live purposefully is more important than ever. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we strive to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us” by actively engaging in our mission through “Just 3” – Study, Share, Serve.

Study: The Dangers of Idleness

Paul’s admonition to the Thessalonians to avoid idleness is a timeless message. He warns against becoming a burden to others and encourages believers to work diligently. Proverbs 6:6-11 also speaks to the dangers of laziness, urging us to learn from the ant’s industriousness. By studying these scriptures, we understand the importance of being active and productive in our faith. This understanding challenges us to examine our own lives and identify areas where we may be tempted to become idle.

Share: Building a Community of Purpose

Sharing our lives with others helps combat idleness. In our church community, we hold each other accountable and encourage one another to live purposefully. By participating in small groups, Bible studies, and fellowship events, we create a supportive environment where everyone is motivated to contribute and grow. This sense of community fosters a culture of purpose, where each member is encouraged to use their gifts and talents for the glory of God.

Serve: Engaging in Meaningful Service

Service is a powerful antidote to idleness. At Lakeview Christian Church, we engage in various service opportunities that allow us to put our faith into action. Whether it’s volunteering at local shelters, participating in mission trips, or helping with church events, these acts of service keep us engaged and focused on our purpose. By serving others, we not only fulfill our calling but also inspire others to do the same.

Conclusion:

Overcoming idleness requires intentionality and commitment. As we study God’s Word, share our lives with others, and serve our community, we live out our mission to be the change. Let us continue to engage purposefully, knowing that our efforts contribute to God’s kingdom work. At Lakeview Christian Church, we are committed to being the change, and we invite you to join us in this journey of purposeful engagement.
