Summer in the Psalms – Psalm 42

šŸ’§ You can read about water, study it, even describe how it tastes—but none of that satisfies a thirsty person. Only drinking does. Psalm 42 says the soul works the exact same way.

We’re staying in Summer in the Psalms this Sunday with Psalm 42 — written by someone in a dry, desperate season: cut off from God’s house, taunted by others, wrestling with why God felt so far away. But he didn’t bury the ache. He brought it honestly to God — and kept choosing hope.

🦌 “As the deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for You” — real faith thirsts for God Himself, not just His gifts

😢 “My tears have been my food day and night” — God isn’t scared of your honesty; bring Him the ache

šŸ—£ļø “Why are you cast down, O my soul?… Hope in God” — sometimes you have to preach truth to yourself louder than your fears

🌊 “Deep calls to deep… all Your waves have gone over me” — even when you feel overwhelmed, you can turn toward God, not away

🪨 “I say to God, my rock” — His steadfast love holds when your feelings won’t

So here’s the invitation this week: when your soul feels dry, don’t run from God—run to Him. Admit your thirst. Speak truth to your soul. And put your hope in the only One who truly satisfies.
