Jesus Connects the Dots: Seeing God’s Story Unfold

How Understanding Scripture Brings Clarity to Confusion

Remember those connect-the-dots puzzles from childhood? You’d follow the numbers, draw the lines, and suddenly—a picture appeared. What seemed like random dots became something beautiful and meaningful. This is exactly what Jesus did for His confused disciples in Luke 24, and it’s what He wants to do for you today.

When Confusion Overwhelms

After the resurrection, the disciples were mentally scattered. They’d witnessed the crucifixion, heard reports of an empty tomb, and received conflicting testimonies. Their minds were racing, trying to piece together events that didn’t seem to fit their expectations.

Sound familiar? Many of us experience seasons when life feels like disconnected dots—circumstances that don’t make sense, prayers that seem unanswered, plans that fall apart. We’re confused, worried, and struggling to see the bigger picture.

That’s when Jesus shows up and says, “Let me connect the dots one more time.”

Revealing HIS-story

Jesus walked His disciples through Scripture—the Law of Moses, the Prophets, the Psalms (Luke 24:44-45). He showed them how everything pointed to Him. The story of Ruth and Obed, the lineage through Jesse, King David “a man after God’s own heart”—it was all part of God’s redemptive plan.

When Jesus revealed this bigger story—HIS-story, which is literally history—something powerful happened: “Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures” (Luke 24:45).

This wasn’t about intelligence or academic knowledge. It was about illumination—seeing Scripture come alive, feeling its truth in your heart, and understanding how it applies to your life.

The Power of Biblical Study

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we emphasize Study as the first step in our “Just 3” mission. Why? Because understanding Scripture isn’t just about gaining information—it’s about transformation.

When you study God’s Word:

  • Disconnected events start making sense
  • Confusion gives way to clarity
  • Doubts are replaced with confidence
  • Fear transforms into peace

This is why we love resources like The Chosen—they help Scripture come alive. When we can visualize the stories, imagine the settings, and connect emotionally with biblical characters, God’s Word becomes real in our hearts.

Your Story in God’s Story

Here’s the beautiful truth: your life isn’t a series of random dots either. God is connecting them all to reveal His purpose for you. The struggles you’ve faced, the prayers you’ve prayed, the waiting seasons you’ve endured—they’re all part of a bigger picture that God is painting.

When you Study to love and know God, you begin seeing how your story fits into His story. When you Share to know and love others, you help them see their place in God’s redemptive plan. When you Serve through love in action, you become part of how God connects the dots for others.

Jesus is still in the business of opening minds to understand Scripture. Let Him connect the dots in your life today.
