Advent: A Season of Hope, Peace, Love, and Joy

advent

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, the Advent season is a cherished time of reflection and anticipation. It is a period where we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Christ’s birth and the profound gifts He brings into our lives: hope, peace, love, and joy. As we light the Advent candles each week, we are reminded of the transformative power of Jesus, who sets us free from sin and darkness.

The Promise of Freedom in Christ

Advent is more than a countdown to Christmas; it is a celebration of the freedom that Jesus brings. In John 8:36, we read, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” This freedom is not just from sin and darkness but also a liberation into a life filled with hope for a better tomorrow, peace from our past, and love that transcends understanding. The birth of Christ is a testament to God’s promise to redeem and restore His people.

Study: Embracing the Advent Message

To truly appreciate the gifts of Advent, we must study the Scriptures that reveal God’s promises. Romans 15:13 encourages us, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him.” By immersing ourselves in God’s Word, we deepen our understanding of the hope and peace that Jesus brings. At Lakeview Christian Church, we emphasize the importance of studying the Bible to know and love God more deeply. This is the first step in our “Just 3” mission: Study, Share, Serve.

Share: Spreading the Joy of Advent

As we experience the joy of Advent, we are called to share it with others. The mission of Lakeview Christian Church is to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us.” By sharing the message of hope and love, we fulfill the Great Commission found in Matthew 28:19-20, bringing the light of Christ to those around us. Sharing the joy of Advent means reaching out to our neighbors, friends, and family, inviting them to experience the love of Christ.

Serve: Living Out Love in Action

Advent is also a time to serve others, reflecting the love of our Savior. Galatians 5:13 reminds us, “Serve one another humbly in love.” Through acts of service, we demonstrate the transformative power of Christ’s love, embodying the mission of “Just 3” by serving our community. Whether it’s volunteering at a local shelter, participating in church outreach programs, or simply offering a helping hand to someone in need, serving is a tangible expression of the love we have received.

Conclusion As we journey through Advent, let us remember the hope, peace, love, and joy that Jesus brings. At Lakeview Christian Church, we are committed to living out these gifts, being the change in our world as Jesus has changed us. This Advent season, may we all strive to study God’s Word, share His love, and serve others, reflecting the light of Christ in all we do.
