“I am” The Gate of Life Week 3 Devotion

Scripture: Reading John 10:1-10

In John chapter 10, Jesus makes a profound statement about being the gate or the door of life. He uses the metaphor of a sheepfold to illustrate the relationship between him and his followers. Just as sheep know the voice of their shepherd and follow him, Jesus calls us to recognize his voice and enter through him to find safety, provision, and ultimately, eternal life.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. How do you perceive Jesus as the gate or the door of life in your own spiritual journey?
  2. Have you fully embraced Jesus as the exclusive path to salvation, or do you find yourself seeking other avenues?
  3. Reflect on moments when you’ve experienced the transition from your old life to the new life found in Christ. What changes have occurred?
  4. In what ways do you rely on Jesus for protection and guidance in your life?

Reflection:

  1. The Exclusive Path: Jesus declares himself as the exclusive way to salvation. Just as a door provides the only entrance to a house, Jesus is the sole entry point to God’s kingdom. This truth challenges us to consider our relationship with Jesus and recognize the significance of accepting him as our Savior.
  2. A Way In and Out: The door not only provides entry but also serves as an exit. When we enter through Jesus, we leave behind our old lives marked by sin and enter into a new life characterized by grace and forgiveness. Jesus offers us a path out of darkness and into the light of his love.
  3. Protection and Authority: Just as a door offers security and authority to the homeowner, Jesus provides protection and guidance to his followers. Through him, we find refuge from the attacks of the enemy and assurance of our eternal security. Jesus’ authority extends over every aspect of our lives, offering us comfort and assurance.
  4. An Invitation to Abundant Life: Jesus invites us to experience abundant life through him. This abundant life isn’t just about material blessings but encompasses spiritual richness, joy, and fulfillment found in a relationship with Christ. As we walk through the door of faith, we discover the fullness of life that Jesus offers.

Meditation Thought: Take 5-10 minutes to enter into a state of quiet reflection. Close your eyes and still your mind. Allow yourself to let go of the worries and distractions of the day. In this sacred moment, invite God’s presence to surround you.

As you listen for God’s voice, consider any other paths of entry you may try to use seeking love, joy, hope, and peace. Surrender them to God, knowing that He is the gate that leads to eternal life. In these moments of stillness, may you draw closer to the heart of God, finding rest for your weary soul and renewal for your spirit. Amen.

Prayer Time: Respond to whatever words God has put on your heart and speak openly and freely to Him.

If you can not think of anything here is a suggested prayer.

Dear Lord, thank you for being the gate of life for us. Help us to recognize your voice and follow you faithfully. May we enter through you to find safety, provision, and the abundant life you offer. Grant us the courage to leave behind our old ways and step into the new life you have prepared for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
