Choosing the Right Master: God Over Money

money

In our journey to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us,” Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes emphasizes the importance of choosing the right master for our hearts. Jesus teaches us that we cannot serve both God and money, as each demands our full allegiance.

The Danger of Serving Money

Money, while a useful tool, can become a terrible master when it takes the throne of our hearts. As Jesus warns in Matthew 6:24 (NIV), “No one can serve two masters… You cannot serve both God and money.” When money becomes our focus, it leads to misplaced priorities and a false sense of security. The pursuit of wealth can distract us from our true purpose and hinder our relationship with God.

Embracing God as Our Master:

  1. Study: Seek God’s wisdom through Scripture to understand His will for your life. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) advises, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Regular Bible study helps us discern God’s priorities and align our lives accordingly.
  2. Share: Use your financial resources to bless others and advance God’s kingdom. Acts 20:35 (NIV) reminds us, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Generosity is a powerful way to demonstrate God’s love and make a positive impact in the world. Consider supporting local ministries and outreach programs at Lakeview Christian Church.
  3. Serve: Invest in eternal treasures by serving those in need. By prioritizing God’s kingdom, we find true fulfillment and purpose. Volunteering your time and talents in church ministries and community projects allows you to live out your faith in meaningful ways.

Conclusion: Choosing God as the master of our hearts leads to a life of true joy and peace. Let us examine our hearts and ensure that Jesus, not money, sits on the throne, guiding our actions and decisions. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are committed to helping you grow in your faith and live a life that honors God.
