Discovering Your Purpose: Why Are You Here?

why

“Why are you here?” This simple yet profound question invites us to reflect on our purpose and mission in life. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we believe that each person is called to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us.” Understanding our purpose is essential to living a life that reflects the love and truth of Christ. In a world filled with distractions and competing priorities, it is crucial to pause and consider the deeper meaning behind our existence.

Understanding Our Mission

Jesus had a clear understanding of His mission: to proclaim the truth, heal the brokenhearted, and bring hope to the lost. In 2 Timothy 4:7, the Apostle Paul speaks of fighting the good fight and finishing the race, a reminder that we too have a mission to fulfill. Our purpose is not just to exist but to actively engage in the work God has set before us. Jesus’ life was marked by intentionality and purpose, and He calls us to follow His example. As we seek to understand our mission, we must ask ourselves, “What has God uniquely equipped me to do?”

Finding Your Purpose

Discovering our purpose begins with self-reflection and seeking God’s guidance. Are we producing good fruit, or are we merely going through the motions? Jesus calls us to be active participants in His mission, sharing hope with the lost and serving others. As we align our lives with His purpose, we find fulfillment and direction. Proverbs 19:21 reminds us, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” By seeking God’s will and aligning our desires with His, we can discover our true purpose.

Application: At Lakeview Christian Church, we emphasize the mission to “Study, Share, Serve.” This framework helps us discover and live out our purpose. By studying God’s Word, we grow in our understanding of His will. By sharing our faith, we connect with others and spread the Gospel. By serving, we put love into action and make a tangible difference in the world. We encourage our congregation to participate in Bible studies, join small groups, and engage in service projects that align with their passions and gifts. Through these activities, we can discern our unique calling and contribute to the body of Christ.

Conclusion: Understanding our purpose is key to living a life that honors God and impacts others. As we reflect on why we are here, let us commit to pursuing our God-given mission with passion and dedication. Together, we can be the change that reflects the transformative power of Jesus Christ. Let us not be content with simply attending church or going through the motions of religious activity. Instead, let us actively seek to understand and fulfill the purpose for which we were created. In doing so, we will experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from living a life aligned with God’s will.
