Seeking First the Kingdom of God

seeking

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we believe in the transformative power of seeking God’s kingdom first. Our mission, “Be the Change as Jesus Has Changed Us,” emphasizes the importance of prioritizing our relationship with God. Today, we explore the significance of seeking first the kingdom of God and how it leads to a new life in Christ.

The Choice Before Us

In life, we are faced with a choice: to pursue the things of this world or to pursue the things of God. Are we going to live an old life, or are we going to embrace a new life in Christ? Matthew 6:33 provides clear guidance: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

The Importance of Seeking God First

Seeking God first means prioritizing our relationship with Him above all else. It means aligning our lives with His will and trusting that He will provide for our needs. This principle is echoed throughout the Bible. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

The Transformative Power of Seeking God

When we seek God first, we experience a transformation in our lives. Our priorities shift, and we begin to see the world through God’s eyes. We develop a deeper understanding of His love, grace, and mercy. This transformation is not just internal but also external, affecting our actions and interactions with others.

Living a Righteous Life

Living a righteous life requires a daily commitment to seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness. This involves studying God’s Word, sharing the hope we have in Jesus, and serving others. At Lakeview Christian Church, we call this “Just 3”: Study, Share, and Serve.

Study: Knowing and Loving God

Studying God’s Word is essential for knowing and loving Him. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” By immersing ourselves in Scripture, we gain wisdom and guidance for our lives. We learn about God’s character, His promises, and His will for us.

Share: Knowing and Loving Others

Sharing the hope we have in Jesus is a natural outflow of our relationship with God. 1 Peter 3:15 encourages us, “But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.” By sharing our faith, we help others come to know and love God.

Serve: Love in Action

Serving others is a tangible expression of God’s love. Galatians 5:13 instructs us, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” By serving others, we demonstrate the love of Christ and make a positive impact in our community.

The Role of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in our journey of faith. As we seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness, the Holy Spirit guides and empowers us. John 16:13 says, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.” The Holy Spirit helps us understand God’s Word, convicts us of sin, and empowers us to live a righteous life.

Conclusion

At Lakeview Christian Church, we encourage you to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Our mission, “Be the Change as Jesus Has Changed Us,” is lived out through “Just 3”: Study, Share, and Serve. By studying God’s Word, sharing the hope we have in Jesus, and serving others, we can live life to its fullest. Remember, you are not alone in this journey. The Holy Spirit is our guide and helper, empowering us to live a righteous life.
