We all are aware of the phrase “Pride comes before the fall”. The book of James reminds its hearers of that same premise and gives some ammunition to combat the ugliness of human pride. In a very counter cultural way both in bible times and also today James encourages us to submit humbly to God instead of ourselves and we are in turn rewarded with grace upon grace.
