The Power of the Gospel: Standing Firm in Faith

gospel

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, our mission is to “Be the Change as Jesus has changed us.” We do this through our “Just 3” initiative: Study, Share, and Serve. We study to love and know God, share to know and love others, and serve to put love into action. Today, we delve into the transformative power of the Gospel as highlighted in Jim’s sermon, focusing on Romans 1:16.

The Power of the Gospel

In Romans 1:16, Paul declares, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” This verse encapsulates the essence of the Gospel’s power. It is not just a message; it is the very power of God for salvation. This power is available to everyone who believes, transcending cultural and ethnic boundaries.

The Privilege of Having God’s Word

Jim emphasized how fortunate we are to have God’s Word readily available. Unlike the early Christians, who relied on oral traditions and the Old Testament, we have the complete Bible. This allows us to read, study, and understand God’s will for our lives. The Bible is not just a book; it is a living document that speaks to us, guides us, and transforms us.

Standing Firm in Faith

Standing firm in our faith can be challenging, especially in a world that often opposes Christian values. However, it is also one of the most rewarding aspects of the Christian walk. Ephesians 6:13-14 encourages us to “take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth.”

The Role of Community

One of the key points Jim made is the importance of community. In times of struggle, having a supportive community can make all the difference. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

Study: To Love and Know God

Studying God’s Word is the first step in our “Just 3” initiative. By immersing ourselves in Scripture, we deepen our relationship with God. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Bible guides us, enlightens us, and helps us grow in our faith.

Share: To Know and Love Others

Sharing our faith is crucial. Romans 10:14-15 asks, “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” By sharing the Gospel, we help others come to know and love Jesus.

Serve: Love in Action

Serving others is the practical application of our faith. James 2:17 states, “So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” Serving allows us to put our love into action, demonstrating the transformative power of the Gospel in tangible ways.

Conclusion

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are committed to standing firm in our faith, supported by the power of the Gospel and the strength of our community. Through studying God’s Word, sharing our faith, and serving others, we fulfill our mission to “Be the Change as Jesus has changed us.” Let us embrace the power of the Gospel and live out our faith boldly and unashamedly.
