The Call to Purity and Holiness

purity

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, our mission is to “Be the Change as Jesus has Changed Us.” This mission calls us to live lives that are pure and holy, reflecting the character of Christ. As Jim’s sermon reminds us, even the smallest amount of impurity can affect our hearts and separate us from God.

The Call to Purity

In 1 Thessalonians 4:7, Paul writes, “For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.” Holiness is not just about avoiding sin; it is about actively pursuing a life that reflects the character of Christ. This means making conscious choices every day to live in a way that honors God.

The Danger of Impurity

We often think that a little bit of sin is harmless, like a tiny speck in an otherwise clean life. But even the smallest amount of impurity can affect our hearts and separate us from God. In James 1:27, we are reminded, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

Be the Change

At Lakeview Christian Church, we embrace the mission to “Be the Change” through “Just 3”: Study, Share, and Serve. We study to love and know God, share to know and love others, and serve as love in action. By engaging in these practices, we ensure that we are not stagnant in our faith but are actively participating in God’s work in the world.

Conclusion

Let us commit to living lives that are pure and holy, reflecting the character of Christ. Let us be vigilant against impurity, continually seeking to grow in our faith and love. As we do so, we will be living testimonies of Christ, drawing others to Him and fulfilling our mission to “Be the Change as Jesus has Changed Us.”
