Jesus, the New Adam: Restoring Hope and Trust

adam

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, our mission is to “Be the change as Jesus has changed us.” This mission is deeply rooted in the transformative power of Jesus’ life and teachings. In the wilderness, Jesus faced temptations that mirrored the failures of Adam and the Israelites, yet He emerged victorious, restoring hope for all humanity. This victory is a cornerstone of our faith and a guiding light for our community.

Jesus, the New Adam

In the sermon, we learned that Jesus is often referred to as the “new Adam.” This title is significant because it highlights the contrast between Jesus’ obedience and Adam’s disobedience. In the Garden of Eden, Adam succumbed to temptation, leading to the fall of humanity. However, in the wilderness, Jesus overcame the devil’s trials, marking a pivotal moment for all of humanity. Romans 5:19 tells us, “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” Jesus’ victory was not just a personal triumph but a restoration of hope and trust for all of us.

Study: Knowing and Loving God

To truly understand the depth of Jesus’ victory, we must engage in the study of Scripture. By delving into the Word, we learn about God’s plan for redemption and the role Jesus played in restoring our relationship with Him. At Lakeview Christian Church, we encourage everyone to participate in Bible studies and personal devotionals to deepen their understanding and love for God. Studying Scripture is not just an intellectual exercise; it is a spiritual journey that transforms our hearts and minds. Psalm 119:105 reminds us, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Application: Be the Change

There are times in our lives when we feel like we’re in the wilderness—tempted, tried, and alone. In these moments, we must remember that the Holy Spirit is with us, just as He was with Jesus. By studying God’s Word, we equip ourselves with the knowledge and strength to overcome our own trials and be the change in our communities. The Bible provides us with the wisdom and guidance we need to navigate life’s challenges. As we grow in our understanding of God’s Word, we become more equipped to live out our faith and make a positive impact on those around us.

Conclusion Jesus’ obedience and victory over temptation offer us hope and a model to follow. As we study Scripture and grow in our faith, we are empowered to live out our mission at Lakeview Christian Church: to be transformed by Jesus and to transform the world around us. Let us commit to studying God’s Word diligently, allowing it to shape our lives and guide our actions. Together, we can be the change that reflects the love and grace of Jesus Christ.
