Overcoming Fear Through Adoption in Christ

adoption

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, our mission is to “Be the Change” as Jesus has changed us. We do this through “Just 3”: Study, Share, and Serve. We study to love and know God, share to know and love others, and serve to love in action. Today, we discuss the power of overcoming fear through our adoption in Christ.

The Spirit of Adoption

Romans 8:15 tells us, “For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!'” This verse highlights the transformative power of being adopted into God’s family. As His children, we no longer need to live in fear.

Crying Out to Our Father

During a recent sermon, Jim asked the congregation to cry out, “Abba, Father!” This simple act reminds us that it is not hard to call on the name of our Heavenly Father. Just as a child reaches out to their parent for comfort and security, we can reach out to God in times of fear and uncertainty.

The Power of God’s Presence

The story of the little boy who overcame fear by holding onto someone’s hand illustrates the power of God’s presence in our lives. When we hold onto God’s hand, we can face our fears with confidence.

1 John 4:4 reassures us, “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.” With God’s Spirit dwelling in us, we have the strength to overcome any fear.

Study, Share, Serve

At Lakeview Christian Church, we believe in the power of overcoming fear through our adoption in Christ. Our mission to “Be the Change” is rooted in our commitment to “Just 3”: Study, Share, and Serve.

  1. Study: We study the Bible to understand our identity as God’s children and the power of His presence in our lives. Through regular Bible study, we grow in our faith and confidence.
  2. Share: We share our experiences of overcoming fear with others. By doing so, we encourage and inspire others to trust in God’s presence and power.
  3. Serve: We serve our community as a reflection of God’s love and strength. Through acts of service, we demonstrate the transformative power of faith in action.

Conclusion

Through our adoption in Christ, we have the power to overcome fear. As we embrace our identity as God’s children, we are called to study His Word, share His love, and serve others. At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, we are committed to being the change as Jesus has changed us. Let us hold onto God’s hand and face our fears with confidence and faith.
