Trusting God in Uncertainty: Lessons from King David

trust

At Lakeview Christian Church of Portage Lakes, our mission to “Be the Change as Jesus Has Changed Us” is embodied in “Just 3” – Study, Share, and Serve. Today, we reflect on King David’s story, a powerful lesson in trusting God amidst life’s uncertainties.

David’s Heart of Trust

In 2 Samuel 12, we witness David’s response to the loss of his child. Despite his grief, David trusts in God’s sovereignty, saying, “I will go to him, but he will not return to me” (2 Samuel 12:23). This trust is rooted in his relationship with God, a relationship built on faith and understanding of God’s character.

David’s response to tragedy is a profound example of faith in action. He acknowledges his own shortcomings and accepts the consequences of his actions, yet he remains steadfast in his trust in God. This unwavering faith is a testament to David’s deep relationship with God, which was cultivated through prayer, worship, and obedience.

Faith in the Face of No

David’s story teaches us that God’s answers to our prayers may not always align with our desires. Yet, as Romans 8:28 assures us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Even when God says no, we can trust that His plans are for our ultimate good.

Trusting God in the face of disappointment requires us to surrender our own desires and align our will with His. It involves recognizing that God’s wisdom and understanding far surpass our own. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Serving with a Trusting Heart

Our mission at Lakeview is to serve love in action. David’s trust in God inspires us to serve others with a heart of faith, knowing that God is in control. As we serve, we demonstrate our trust in God’s provision and His ability to work through us for His glory.

Serving with a trusting heart means being open to God’s leading and being willing to step out in faith, even when the path is uncertain. It involves using our gifts and talents to bless others, trusting that God will use our efforts to further His kingdom. Galatians 5:13 reminds us, “Serve one another humbly in love.”

Conclusion

Let us learn from David’s example, trusting God even when the future is uncertain. As we study His Word, share His love, and serve others, may we be the change in our world, reflecting the unwavering faith that David exemplified. At Lakeview Christian Church, we are committed to being the change as Jesus has changed us, and it begins with trusting God in all circumstances.
